Dog Food Recalled For Toxic Levels Of An Everyday Ingredient

Several dog food brands have issued a recall over toxic levels of an everyday ingredient.

According to USA TODAY, the FDA found 70 times the intended amount of vitamin D in several brands of dog food, including Ahold Delhaize, ELM Pet Foods, Inc., Kroger, Lidl, ANF, Inc., Sunshine Mills, Inc., Natural Life Pet Products, and Nutrisca.

High levels of vitamin D can cause vomiting, weight loss, kidney failure, and even death.

The FDA says owners should not sell the affected foods. Illnesses resulting from the recalled food can be reported through the FDA's Safety Reporting Portal or by calling Minnesota's FDA Consumer Complaint Coordinators at 612-758-7221.
