The Mall of America announced on Thursday that its "Skate the Star" rink that was scheduled to close on January 27th will not be closing until Feb. 18th due to popular demand.
The custom-built rink, the first-of-its-kind at the Mega Mall, has been a huge success not just for the MOA, but also the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities who have been benefitting financially from skate rentals. The MOA has donated 100 percent of its ice skate rental fees to the nonprofit, which has so far raised more than $75,000 since the rink opened on Dec. 8.
"Our goal with Skate the Star was to bring a new experience to our guests and to raise money and awareness for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities," said Jill Renslow, SVP of Business Development at Mall of America. "I’m so excited that we have surpassed all expectations with our first-ever ice rink. We are thrilled to be able to host this experience for a few more weeks and continue raising funds for such an important community partner."
If you want to try the ice rink at the MOA before it closes, you can find it at the North entrance, next to the Star sculpture.
