It can be difficult and nearly impossible to keep up with all the new tech as it's being developed and sometimes researchers develop something truly radical. The United Nations reports we are on the edge of a population crisis. More specifically an aging population. They estimate that by 2050, almost a quarter of the population will be over the age of 60, roughly 2.1 billion people.

We will need to rethink everything from medical care, to mobility and social security. An issue many elderly deal with is mobility and thanks to a company called SEISMIC, that may become a thing of the past. They are building a lightweight and comfortable “super suit.” Essentially this suit could we worn underneath a person’s clothes, to help boost their muscles and ensure they have the strength and stamina to move.

The suit’s made of a unique fabric that mimics muscle fibers and supports the individuals natural movement. The suit contains tiny motors that cause the fibers to contract and expand.

These muscles are integrated around the joints of the body and attached via grips in the clothing mimicking tendons.

The focus at Seismic isn’t just to help the elderly, they’re also working on apparel that can help those that have suffered strokes and children with muscular dystrophy.
