The aforementioned yanny or laurel has divided the internet for over a week now. Jay Aubrey Jones is the Broadway and TV actor who recorded the clip for Vocabulary.com back in 2007. And he confirms he is, in fact, saying "laurel," though lots of people hear "yanny." So what does Jones himself hear?
"Laurel," he tells NPR and he adds that he initially didn't recognize his own voice when the clip started making it's hit on the interwebs.
"I think it has to do first of all with what has happened with people's computers or listening devices, also how people process sound, which is highly individual," he says of why people are hearing different things. Jones' acting bio on IMDb now cements his new claim to fame. "He's the 'Laurel' guy," it reads. "Or is it the 'Yanni' guy."
