Ski Ballet Used To Be An Olympic Sport & It's Just As 80's As It Sounds

You thought watching Shawn White shred a half pipe, or watching athletes fly down a luge track at 70+ mph was the best thing winter Olympics had to offer. Well I'm here to tell you, you're wrong. Ski Ballet was an official, recognized sport from the late 1960s to 2000, and appeared as a demonstration event in the 1988 and 1992 Winter Olympics.

In case you're wondering, yes... It's exactly what it sounds like. Competitors ski down a gentle slope, performing choreographed twirls and jumps and splits set to music. Judges then gave each ballet skier a score out of 10. Athletes donned tassels and tights and colorful one pieces, just as flashy as figure skaters.

Watch the video below and let's work together to petition the IOC (International Olympic Committee) to bring this sport back. It truly has everything from, showmanship, drama, mullets and rockin' perms.
