Families who lost loved ones in the 9/11 terror attacks will be gathering at the World Trade Center Memorial in Manhattan for the 22nd anniversary of the attacks today. During a ceremony, names of the nearly three-thousand victims killed will be read out loud. There will be moments of silence and the tolling of bells as part of the ceremony. For the first time this year, there will be a tribute at the Memorial Glade after the ceremony to recognize people who have died from and are still experiencing illnesses tied to the aftermath of the attacks. The Glade is a dedicated space within the National September 11 Memorial plaza that memorializes the sacrifices made by first responders. It was dedicated in 2019 on the 17th anniversary of the day that marked the official end of the recovery effort.
