School District Bans Student Phones, Fines Students To Get Them Back

The Lockhart Independent School District in Austin has instituted a new rule banning phones for students, in an effort to remove distractions and alleviate stress.

If a student has their phone taken away, it will cost them $15 to get it back.

This isn't exactly a brand new idea. Nearby Hays School District has done the same thing, fining students $10. Over 600 phones were taken away, raising $6000.

You're probably wondering where that money went. It actually went back to the students in the form of four $1,500 scholarships.

Here's the entire rule
