For over 30 years, Cities 97.1 has been dedicated to helping local MN Charities and it’s no different in 2023. This month as part of Cities Gives Back, we recognize Every Meal.
Did you know that More than 300,000 children in Minnesota live with food insecurity - which means they don’t have consistent access to enough food for an active and healthy life
Every Meal started in 2010 providing bags of non-perishable food to 27 kindergarteners in Las Estrellas Dual Language Elementary (previously Sheridan Elementary) in Northeast Minneapolis and has grown to provide children and families experiencing food insecurity with access to good food at more than 500 locations in Minnesota through multiple food gap programs.
Families may choose from five food bag options tailored to various cultural dietary preferences or situational needs. Every Meal is nearly 100% community funded. Their work is fueled by donations from our community. This helps them fill the food gaps that government funding does not reach.
Every Meal’s biggest need right now is preparing for their Weekend Meal Program as kids get back to school. They're expecting to serve nearly 12,000 kids every week in approximately 475 schools across Minnesota. They have about 25% left in our $1 million match challenge - every gift helps support a successful start to the new school year.
