This month as part of Cities Gives Back, we recognize Open Your Heart To The Hungry & Homeless. Did you know that families experiencing homelessness have increased 10% and the unsheltered homeless rate has increased 62% in the last 3 years?
At Open Your Heart they help food shelters fill specific and unmet needs like providing them with funding for items such as freezers, shelves, mattresses and heating units for our brutally cold winters. Open Your Heart has been targeting donations to help emergency shelters, supportive housing programs, and domestic violence shelters in Minnesota since 1986.
Open Your Heart is one of the only funders in Minnesota that provides quarterly funding for infrastructural needs and helps remove barriers for those experiencing food and housing insecurity. Being a small foundation enables them to be nimble and to quick to provide support when needed. Unfortunately, however, they consistently receive far more requests than they can fund.
