For over 30 years, Cities 97.1 has been dedicated to helping local MN Charities and it’s no different in 2023.
This month as part of Cities Gives Back, we recognize the Autism Society of Minnesota, (AuSM). Autism is the fastest growing developmental disability in Minnesota. With a prevalence rate of 1 in 36 Minnesotans being autistic, the autism community is all of us – it’s your neighbors, your co-workers, your friends, and their families.
As Minnesota’s first autism resource for over a half-century, AuSM serves the whole state, the whole spectrum, for the whole life. AuSM’s programs and services include social and recreation programs, summer camps, education programs, counseling, advocacy, and consulting with organizations across Minnesota to foster a greater understanding of the strengths and challenges of people with autism.
AuSM’s social and recreation programs serve a wide range of needs, abilities, and ages – with engaging opportunities for autistic adults. Check out AuSM’s events calendar at ausm.org for a listing of sensory-friendly activities and other programs of interest to the autism community.
April is National Autism Acceptance Month, an opportunity to show your support for the autism community by taking proactive steps toward inclusion, disability justice, and acceptance. Visit https://ausm.org/ to get involved, learn about the experiences of autistic people from autistic people, and help build more welcoming and inclusive communities by changing the dialogue on accessibility and inclusion beyond just physical needs.
