Gov. Tim Walz Wednesday announced a "four-week pause" to combat the latest spike in coronavirus cases, hospitalizations, and deaths in the state. Walz says the because cases have quickly "skyrocketed," the state must move fast to relieve pressure on the state's hospitals, which are nearing capacity.

Minnesota's surge in coronavirus deaths and cases continued Thursday, with a second-consecutive day of record-breaking deaths. A total of 72 deaths were reported Thursday, along with 7,877 new cases of the vurys.

The previous daily record was 67 deaths, which was reported Wednesday.
