Nearly every adult at one time in their childhood has heard their parents sigh and say, “you’ll understand when you have children.”
At the time, however, those words seemed about as illogical as the rumor that the gum I swallowed back in 1995 would still be hanging out in my stomach well into my 40’s.
My childhood was a magical time when I thought I knew everything but wasn’t yet smart enough to realize how far that was from the truth.
After all, I had a whole ten years plus of life experience which made me an expert on how to parent myself much better than my actual parents did.
Turns out though, that little turn of phrase about having my eyes opened to their higher logic simply by parenting my own children, was right.
