On Feb. 23, 1945 an image was captured that will be in all of our minds forever. The sight of it brings up sadness, victory, and American pride. ABC news reports that this photo, "recognized one of the World War II's bloodiest battles and became a symbol synonymous with the Marine Corps." You can see the full story here. Joe Rosenthal's photo won the Pulitzer prize for photography in 1945. It has since been made a statue that was dedicated in 1954.
