Mom-Of-Five Faces MONTHS In Jail For Unreturned Library Books

A mom-of-five discovered she had a warrant out for her arrest over two unreturned library books, and the discovery was made when her boss ran a background check for a promotion.

According to the Daily Mail, 27-year-old Mindy Jones was suspended instead of being promoted at her security guard job after her boss came across the warrant, which was issued in 2017.

Jones says she returned the books six months ago, but the library continued to pursue the charge. At this point, Jones is ordered to pay a $500 fine or spend 93 days in jail for her misdemeanor charge for "failure to return rental property."

The books in question were "Where the Sidewalk Ends" by Shel Silverstein and the "Night" trilogy by Elie Wiesel, which she found on her son's bookshelf.

Jones is taking full responsibility for her actions, but hopes the charges will be dropped.

"I'm not blaming the library, I'm going to pay my late fees today," she said. "It's the fact that Eaton County feels the need to get involved. Since when do people go to jail over late fees and books?"
