Minnesota has been put under its first winter storm watch of the season as a powerful system approaches the state.
According to the National Weather Service (via Bring Me The News), there's a winter storm watch for northwest Minnesota, which includes Detroit Lakes, Moorhead, Fergus Falls, Thief River Falls, Bemidji, and Warroad. The Twin Cities will likely experience rain, wind, and possibly snowflakes.
The watch takes effect Thursday afternoon through Saturday afternoon. The NWS warns that travel could be very difficult in affected areas where blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility on the road.
