The Lion King Has Passed Frozen As The Highest Grossing Animated Film Ever!

The 2019 The Lion King may not look like your animated film that you remember, in fact...it looks ultra realistic, but it's still animated and right now, it has now dethroned the widely popular animated film, Frozen. According to CinemaBlend.com, The new movie is considered a "photorealistic" computer-animated remake of the 1994 animated classic. So it still falls in the animation category. But even if you refuse to see it that way,The Lion King is also now the #1 Disney remake, period.

Regardless, Disney wins as it owns both properties. The two films all together add up to a very nice, $2 Billion plus. I'm sure the mouse is not too upset by that number. As of August 11th, The Lion King (2019) has earned $1,334,603,826 while Frozen earned $1,226,480,335. Keep in mind that The Lion King is not even done yet and could still earn more. Nostalgia is a big seller, that's for sure!

Behind Frozen is 2018's Incredibles 2 at $1.242 billion, and Minions at $1.15 billion, then Toy Story 3, Despicable Me 3, Finding Dory, and Zootopia.
