New study says sleeping with the lights on may cause weight gain

Dozing off with the TV on or simply having a light on in the bedroom may cause weight gain, according to a new study. The study, which was conducted by The National Institutes of Health states that light and our metabolism may be connected. According to the lead author, Dale Sandler, a scientist with the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, "Evolutionarily we are supposed to be sleeping at night, in a dark place...It's much more important than people realize for a whole variety of health reasons."

Daily exposure to light and darkness helps maintain our 24-hour body clock which regulates metabolism, sleep-promoting hormones, blood pressure, and other bodily functions.
