A waffle house that made its name on the streets of New York City has selected Minnesota for its first location outside the Big Apple.
Wafels & Dinges, which has a dozen food truck and kiosk locations scattered across Manhattan, will land at the Mall of America later this year.
It'll open its new space on Level 3, West, serving up its own version of "Liège style" Belgian waffles.
It was founded by Belgian native Thomas DeGeest, and Venezuelan Rossanna Figuera, who are partners in both marriage and business.
DeGeest quit his six-figure job at IBM to start selling waffles from a 1968 Chevy truck on the streets of New York in 2007, and was joined full-time by his wife, a former diplomat to the UN and banker, in 2012.
Their reputation grew, and claim to make "the most authentic Belgian waffle on this side of the Atlantic."
