For those of us who love science...*cough* me..*cough* ...Astronomers announced on Wednesday that they have finally seen a something in space that many thought to be impossible, a black hole. What's a black you ask? According to the web, "A black hole is a region in space with a strong gravitational effects that nothing—not even particles and electromagnetic radiation such as light can escape." Think quick sand in space, but a lot stronger.
According to Shep Doeleman, an astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics said, “We’ve exposed a part of our universe we’ve never seen before." which is pretty cool if you ask me. The photo was taken in the Messier 87 galaxy, there the black hole is about seven billion times bigger than the sun. It's a bit blurry but you can check out the picture below!
