Everything You Thought About Finding a STAR on Tootsie Pops is a LIE

Anyone else remember the famous rumor? That if you found an indian shooting a star on your Tootsie Pop, you'd get a free one?

For those unfamiliar, here is what it looked like:

The only problem is...do you ever remember anyone getting a free Tootsie Pop from that?

Well apparently even the Tootsie Pop company has no idea how this started...

Here is a statement from them:

"It has been rumored that local convenience stores used to give a free Tootsie Pop to anyone who brought in a wrapper containing the image of the shooting star. Unfortunately, we do not know how this rumor started and Tootsie Roll Industries has never actually honored this promotion."

Also, to make it worse, apparently they're not all that rare according to the company:

"The shooting star appears on 1 in every 4 to 6 Tootsie Pop wrappers, just as frequent as the other images appear."
