Saving the world, one coffee cup at a time. Starbucks have announced that they will be testing both recyclable and biodegradable cups over the next year. The new cup will look just like Starbucks’ current paper cup but instead will have a biodegradable liner that serves as a barrier to make sure liquid doesn’t leak out.
Rebecca Zimmer, Starbucks’ global director of environment says, "We have a lot of work to do on understanding these cup technologies, how they scale, how they work in the cup manufacturing environment, and then of course how they flow through the waste management infrastructures,”
Starbucks has been trying to find more "greener" alternatives to their cups to close to three decades. Regardless, kudos to them for taking a stand and trying to produce less trash!
