Mother in Mankato Toddler Incident Charged with Child Endangerment

The mother of a 2-year-old girl who was seen on video falling out of a moving car has been charged with child endangerment.

Maimuna Hasson, 40, of Mankato, was arrested following the incident on Monday which was captured on the dash cam video of a following vehicle.

The video showed the car seat fall with the girl inside from a Honda Civic on Minnesota Street, Mankato, at 11:45 a.m. Fortunately, the child was uninjured.

The car, driven by Hassan, had just pulled out of the Hy-Vee parking lot onto Minnesota Street when the child seat fell out.

Hassan and another of her children then returned to the scene as police attended, with both crying and upset. Hassan hugged the child before speaking to police via some of her friends, who translated.

She told police she'd parked her car on a nearby street and that the door "popped open" and her daughter "rolled out" while she was driving. She said her child "must have unlocked it."

She also said the toddler was secured, but police found that the car seat didn't have a "LATCH" strap, which secures the seat to the car, despite Hassan's Civic being LATCH-compatible.
