Neighbors in one town noticed unusual behavior in a pair of birds, who turned out to be intoxicated.
According to CNN, the California birds (a Canada Goose and Ring-Billed Gull) were seen walking slowly in a neighborhood park, lowering their necks with eyes barely open, and passing out...legs splayed in the air.
Experts with the nonprofit Wetlands & Wildlife Care Center posted on the group's Facebook page that the pills seemed to have included heart medications, antidepressants, anti-anxiety, and insomnia medications. The birds probably thought the pills looked like grain. It's unknown who dumped the pills in the park or when they were dumped there.
The birds were given IV fluids and were eventually back on their feet. Experts believe there may have been other birds that flew away after ingesting pills and have warned people in the area to be on the lookout.
