NY Times Tells America: Be More Like The Twin Cities

Yes, it's another one of those "national media says Minnesota is the best" articles.

The media in question this time round is the New York Times, which is lauding Minneapolis-St. Paul for its public park system.

In the piece published Monday, "The Secret to Good Health May Be a Walk in the Park," writer Jane Brody points out how the Twin Cities has the best access to public parks and recreation areas out of any major metro in the country.

The Twin Cities regularly place at or near the top of national rankings for public parks, owing to the studies that have found 96 percent of people living in Minneapolis and 98 percent in St. Paul live within a 10-minute walk of a park.

Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, for example, has responsibility for 6,809 acres of parkland and water set across 180 parks, 55 miles of parkways, 102 miles comprising the Grand Rounds biking and walk paths, 22 lakes, 12 gardens, seven golf courses and 49 recreation centers.
