Swedish meatballs as we know them have been a lie all along. Yes, that includes IKEA's meatballs.
They're a staple at dinner tables and on day-long IKEA trips, but a major truth bomb was dropped about Swedish meatballs by Sweden itself pointed out by HuffPost. Swedish meatballs are actually from Turkey.
"Swedish meatballs are actually based on a recipe King Charles XII brought home from Turkey in the early 18th century," Sweden.se, run by the Swedish Institute, tweeted. "Let's stick to the facts!"
One Twitter user uncovered a "Turkish Meat-Dish" recipe in a Swedish cookbook from 1737 to support Sweden.se's revelation.
