Research on Work-Life Balance

I really enjoyed Dr. Oelberger's class last semester. She's a great and caring teacher and I agree with everything she says in this video. I think we have many things backwards when it comes to work-life balance.

I remember asking one of my favorite bosses for vacation time for the first time. I was nervous — I thought she would judge me and consider me lazy. Instead, she was supportive and that made a world of difference. She left me with a life lesson as I left her office — she told me, "You work because you love what you do, but more importantly you work so you can provide and spend time with the people you love." She didn't consider me an asset but rather a person. Too many bosses treat workers like assets and not like people.
