Mint Julep Recipe: To highball glass or silver Julep cup, add minted simple syrup, then 1 cup crushed ice, bourbon, and splash of water. Add enough of remaining ice to almost fill glass. Stir well and garnish with mint sprig.

The Mint Julep has been the traditional beverage of Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby for nearly a century. Each year, almost 120,000 Mint Juleps are served over the two-day period of Kentucky Derby weekend at Churchill Downs Racetrack.

Mystic Lake is throwing a south of the border party in the North Star state Friday, May 5 to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. The free event features live entertainment, a free concert by Los Lobos and the World Taco Eating Championship, a competitive eating contest featuring local and national contestants.

At the corner of 25th St. E. and Bloomington Ave. S., and travels south on Bloomington to 34th St. E., where the parade turns west towards Powderhorn Park.

3pm: Ceremony & Festival

The MayDay Tree of Life Ceremony begins at 3pm in Powderhorn Park. The Festival is open throughout the day.
