They've filed a lawsuit against the owners of a Mexican hotel who they claim are trying to make their guests believe the band is associated with the property, which is known as Hotel California.
The complaint states that the owners of the Baja California Sur hotel "actively encourage" guests to believe the band is associated with it by selling Eagles merchandise, and piping "Hotel California" and other Eagles songs throughout the hotel sound system. The owners have also applied with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to register the Hotel California name. It adds that the owners even try to suggest that the hotel "served as the inspiration for the lyrics in 'Hotel California,' which is false."
When the hotel opened in 1950, it was named Hotel California. It has since undergone numerous name changes, but when a Canadian couple bought it in 2001, they started using the original name in its marketing campaign.
