It’s no secret that people these days feel the need to share their opinion whether people ask for it or not. And that’s exactly what happened when a man shared a lovely picture of his wife sleeping with their two children in bed.
Oklahoma City resident David Brinkley posted a photo of his wife, Alora, in bed with their baby and two-year old on social media, writing, “Do I have to squeeze into a small corner of the bed sometimes? Yeah? But my God how beautiful does she look holding my children?”
The post was shared by more than 500,000 people, and while some people supported the family’s co-sleeping, sharing their own pics of their family in bed, many blasted them for possibly endangering their kids.
“This is dangerous for the baby,” one Facebook user commented. “Babies should sleep alone, on their back, in a crib.” Another added, “Co-sleeping is not safe. Children get rolled on all of the time, and this type of behavior creates children who can’t sleep on their own without touch!” Co-sleeping is, of course, controversial. It is highly discouraged by experts who note that it can lead to accidental suffocation and increases the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
All of the backlash forced Brinkley to take down his picture, but his wife later took to Facebook to defend her husband and insists their children were never in any danger. She adds that co-sleeping wasn’t the point of the picture, and it was just posted to share a “sweet sentiment.”
