Does Your Meth Have Zika? Police Will Test It For Free

Police are offering to test meth for Zika (for free), leaving many Internet users laughing and wondering if this is a complete joke.

According to WTSP (via KARE 11), methamphetamine purchased in Louisiana may be contaminated with the Zika Virus, and police say they will test your meth for free to check.

In a Facebook post, the Harahan Police Department encouraged anyone with crystal meth to bring it to the police station for a free test. If you're uncomfortable going to the police station with meth, they say, you can give them a call and an officer will come "test your meth in the privacy of your home."

Police Chief Tim Walker told the New Orleans Advocate that no one has come in for a free test yet, but the ploy was intended to be an attention-getter because of the nationwide opioid and meth epidemic.

Another police department in Ohio made the same offer on Facebook back in May with almost the exact same wording, except they added a disclaimer that meth cannot be a host for the Zika Virus.

The CDC says Zika is spread through mosquito bites, from mother to child, through sexual intercourse, blood transfusion, or in lab & healthcare settings.
